阅读理解。     A child-like robot. Wakamaru, developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan and combining the roles
of nurse, companion and security guard, will soon be in the market to look after the growing number of old
people with no one to look after them.
Cameras fixed under the "eyebrows" of the robot enable it to "see" as it moves around in a house. The
images can be sent to the latest mobile phones, which can show the pictures. Wakamaru speaks with either
the voice of a boy or a girl. It is also designed to provide companionship, saying hello to its "papa" when he
comes home. Based on a vocabulary of around 10,000 words, it is the first household robot which is able to
hold simple conversations. It can not only speak, but also understand answers and react accordingly. It will
ask "Are you all right?" if its owner doesn"t move for some time. If the answer is no, or there is no answer, it
will telephone preset numbers, send images and work as a speakerphone. It can recognize up to 10 faces and
be set to tell forgetful people when it is time to take medicine, eat and sleep.
However, like most robots, it cannot climb stairs. Mitsubishi developed Wakamaru from robots which have
already been made to go around nuclear power facilities."Looking at the ageing of society and the falling birth
rate we decided that this could work as a business. We want to offer it as a product that helps society,"said the
project chief. The developers plan to sell the robot from April this year at between5,000 and 6,000 pounds.
The life expectancy (寿命) of Japanese women has shot up to almost 85, the highest in the world. At the
same time, large families are being replaced by nuclear families. This has left many Japanese anxious about
their elderly parents. Therefore, the technology has gained nation-wide publicity in Japan.1. The passage is written with the purpose to _____. A. introduce a new robot
B. solve the ageing problem
C. tell people the rapid development of technology
D. tell people how to use the robot 2. It can be inferred from the passage that _____. A. the robot can dial proper number for help
B. the robot is likely to have a promising market
C. the robot enables the Japanese to live longer
D. many elderly Japanese are anxious about their future 3. The underlined part "nuclear families"in the last paragraph probably means "_____ ". A. families with nuclear power facilities
B. small families without a parent

1   Friends and mates allow us to enjoy our successes and our joys, comfort us in our hard moments,
and provide a mirror for us to learn more about ourselves. I"ve always looked at friends as the family we
choose. They enrich our lives. As Robert Louis Steven once said, "  2  "
To be a good friend or partner, it"s important to be a good listener. Hear what your friend or mate has
to say first rather than jump to conclusions or get defensive.   3   When they hear their words repeated
back to them, it can help them to realize what they said was not exactly what they meant to say.
4    You know the old golden rule,"Care for others the way you would like them to care for you." The
support of a friend during a tough time could make the difference between success and failure.
Encouragement and confidence are the gifts that can help change a person"s life.
Take care, though, with whom you choose to have close relationship, for they can have a great effect
on yourself-respect and life path. As someone once told me,"   5   They will either take you up or down." A. I am afraid so.
B. It is quite true.
C. Friendship is the most important factor.
D. Sometimes it is useful to be their mirror.
E. A friend is a present which you give yourself.
F. The attitudes of your friends are like the buttons on a lift.
G. Patience, sympathy and understanding are also important qualities.

a recent report by market research firm iResearch. China"s online game market generated revenue (总收入)
of 20.8 billion yuan($3.04 billion) in 2008, up 52.2% over the previous year. Over 80% of the revenue came
from big, multiplayer online games, with the rest generated from Web games and mobile games.
The overall market is expected to keep growing at an average annual rate of 20% in the coming five years.
And iResearch forecasts that the Chinese online market will be worth more than 68 billion yuan by 2012,
which will account for almost half of the global market by then. At present, U.S., China and Korea are the
world"s top three largest online game markets, making up about 29%, 27% and 21% respectively of the global
online game market, according to the report.
U.S. game companies derive a major part of their revenue from sales of games overseas. South Korea"s
online game industry generates half of its revenue from games in its home market. In China, however, most
of the money comes directly from its own game players. Negatively influenced by the global economic
downturn, both the U.S. and Korea markets will see a drop in game exporting, iResearch estimates.
In China, the enormous base and fast growing of online gamers will further boost China"s online game
industry, said the report. China is currently home to 55.5 million online game players, according to the latest
stats by the China Internet Network Information Center(CNNIC). In its report, iResearch found that figures
for gamers under 18 and above 40 grew at their fastest rate yet last year, though it didn"t disclose specifics. 1. The second and third paragraphs show that _____. A. The global online game market will be worth more than 136 billion yuan in 2012.
B. China"s online game market increased by 20% in 2008.
C. China"s online game market will become 60% less in 2009.
D. US, China and Korea together account for 90% of the global online game market. 2. China"s online game industry is different from that of the US and Korea because it"s _____. A. made up of online, Web and mobile games
B. easily affected by the global economy
C. mainly based upon its home market
D. among the three largest online game markets 3. Which of the following things is mentioned as a factor in the rapid development of
China"s online game industry? A. The rapid growth of online gamers in China.
B. A drop in game imports to China.
C. The global economic downturn.
D. The development of technology in China. 4. According to the last paragraph, which of the following is TRUE? A. CNNC and iResearch worked together on the report.
B. Gamers under 18 were one of the age groups which grew the fastest last year.
C. At present there are 55.5 million online game providers in China.

阅读理解。     After years of hearing drivers complain about scratches (划痕) on their cars, Japan"s Nissan Motor
Company has officially announced the next big thing-a paint that not only resists scratches and scrapes,
but actually repairs itself within a few days.
The new material, developed by Nippon Paint Company, contains an elastic rubbery-like resin (弹性树
脂) that is able to heal minor (较小的) marks caused by car wash equipment, parking lot encounters, road
debris (石头碎片) or even on-purpose destruction.
The automaker admits its results vary depending on the temperature and the depth of the damage, but
adds this is the only paint like it in the world, and tests prove it works.
Minor scratches, the most common type, are said to slowly fade over about a week. And once they"re
gone, there is no trace (痕迹) that they were ever there.
The special paint is said to last for at least three years after it is first applied, but there is no word yet
on whether more can be added after that period.
Nissan claims car washes are the worst offenders for this type of damage, accounting for at least 80
percent of all incidents.
But the complete auto-healing won"t come without scratching your wallet. The vehicle maker notes
the special paint adds about $100 US to the price of a car.
It plans to use its new chemical mixture only on its X-Trail SUVs in Japan for now, as it looks for a
more widespread presentation. And while plans to offer the feature overseas haven"t been made yet, if it"s
a hit there, you can be almost sure market forces will drive it to these shores, as well. 1. From the article, we can find that ______. A. the paint has already been used on cars by now
B. it beats other products of its kind in its lengthy effect

B. fade only in a few days

prefer low-tech ways of doing things. Here"s an example of why this is happening. You can microwave
a frozen hamburger in 60 seconds. However, it won"t taste as good as one you cook on the stove. And
if you"re in that much of a hurry, you probably won"t take time to toast the bun. High-tech cooking saves
time, but it doesn"t make for better-tasting meals.
Most people get their news from high-tech sources like television or the Internet. This has many
advantages. For example, electronic news is more up to date than newspapers or magazines. It"s also
more exciting to see live and videotaped news events than photographs. However, newspapers and
magazines have some important advantages. They give more background and details. They also let you
read the parts that are important to you and skip the rest.
Other high-tech timesavers have similar disadvantages. For examples, most people use the phone or
e-mail to stay in touch with friends and family members who live in other places. But when you use the
Internet or the phone, you don"t always think carefully about what you are saying, and sometimes you
forget the important things you want to communicate. Similarly, when you word-process a homework
assignment instead of handwriting it, you can check your spelling electronically and put in fancy
headings. However, some students are so busy with the computer that they don"t pay enough attention
to the actual words they are writing.1. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage? A. The writer likes high-tech cooking.
B. Low-tech cooking produces better-tasting meals.
C. High-tech news programs always keep you reading what is important to you.
D. Handwritten homework is better than word-processed homework.2. How does the writer feel about high-tech tool? A. Better late than never.
B. Easy come, easy go.
C. Every coin has two sides.
D. Learn to walk before you run. 3. What is the main subject discussed in the text?A. High-tech vs. low-tech.
B. Advantages vs. disadvantages.
C. Newspapers and magazines vs. television and the Internet.
D. Word-processing vs. handwriting.
