阅读理解。        Winter is dangerous because it"s so difficult to know what is going to happen and accidents take
place so easily. Fog can be waiting to meet you over the top of a hill. Ice might be hiding under the melting
snow, waiting ahead to send you off the road. The car coming to you may suddenly slip across the road.
Here are some rules you can follow:
Rule No. 1 for driving on icy roads is to drive smoothly. Sudden movements can make a car very
difficult to control. So every time you either start or stop your car, increase or reduce your speed, you must
be as gentle(careful) and slow as possible. Suppose you are driving with a full cup of hot coffee on the seat
next to you. Drive carefully so that you wouldn"t spill it.
Rule No. 2 is to pay attention to what might happen. The more ice there is, the further down the road
you have to look. Test how long it takes to gently stop your car. Remember that you may be driving more
quickly than you think. Generally, allow twice of your usual stopping distance when the road is wet, three
times this distance on snow, and even more on ice. Try to stay in the control of your car at all times and you
will not get into trouble. 1.  What does the writer try to tell us in this passage?A. He tells us his dislikes about the winter weather.
B. He gives us information about winter weather.
C. He asks people not to drive in winter.
D. He advises people on safe driving in winter. 2. According to the passage, what does the writer think of driving in winter? A. People should not drive in snow.
B. People drive their cars too fast.
C. People should stop their cars less gently.
D. People should think more about problems of winter driving. 3. Why does the writer talk about a cup of coffee? A. He tries to show how important smooth movements are.
B. He wants to ask the drivers to bring some soft drinks with them.
C. He tells the drivers to be more relaxed while driving.
D. He tries to show how it can be spilled. 4. Which of the following is NOT TRUE? A. Traffic accidents take place more easily in winter.
B. Fog and ice often causes car accidents.
C. The stopping distance on ice is the same as the usual one.
D. In winter you"d better drive your car more carefully. 5. Which traffic sign shows the main ideas of this passage? A.
B.
C.
D.

You can always find the advice column ( 建议栏) in the school newspaper. No one knows who writes
it. The students think their teacher does, but it might be a student using a false (假的) name. The students
enjoy thinking up problems for the advice column. Here are some of them and their answers.
                                ASK THE CLEVER MONKEY
Question: I"m always late for school. I try not to be, but I can"t. Please advise me what to do.
                                                                                                                                         Tommy
Answer: You are late for school probably because you go to bed too late. My advice to you is to go to
bed earlier, buy a clock to wake you up on time.
Q: I was brought up by my grandparents and began to live with my parents three years ago for a better
study environment. They love me; I can see this in their eyes. But I don"t know how to show my love for
them. What can I do to let them know I love them back?
                                                                                                                                              Sara
A: If you feel the need to show your love for your parents, that"s great. Make sure you remember their
birthdays and buy them cards and presents. Try to spend time with your parents. Tell them how you feel.
Try to enjoy your life. Your parents want you to be happy-if you are happy, they will be happy, too.
Q: I"m one of the best students in my class. But I always make some mistakes which I should not make.
And now, I"m afraid to see my teachers. I just don"t know how to face them. Can you tell me how I can solve
this problem?
                                                                                                                                              Molly
A: The first thing you need to do is relax. Worrying about your studies is not going to help. If you have
any difficulty, tell your teachers. No teacher is going to get angry with a student who wants to improve
himself.

Someone once wrote, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." Work is important, but everyone
needs leisure time too.1. Leisure time means free time to do whatever you want. It is a time for anything
that interests you. Some people like to play sports for good health. Others like to go to interesting places,
such as museums or parks. Many people have hobbies. They make things or collect things. Right now,
someone is enjoying a hobby somewhere.
People collect coins, stamps, rocks, or books. Everyone likes to make something. You could make a
boat or a table, a sweater or a fishing net, a bird cage or an apple pie. 2.  It doesn"t matter what you make,
as long as it"s something you do yourself.
People with hobbies are not dull. They are interesting because
they can talk about their leisure activities. Some work and some play will make you interesting too.
