As a student, you must have homework every day. How do you deal with your homework? When do you usually finish your homework? Here is some advice for you to help you finish your homework well.
Homework should be done as soon as you get home from school. If you have after-school activities, the homework should be done first. At the same time, it is fine to allow for a snack break and also to allow for stretching(伸展) breaks.
Also, you should remember that it is your duty to do your homework. Don’t depend on Mum and Dad for help. Please try to find the answer yourself because you will learn much more that way.
When you have a question, especially something about a science or maths, don’t always turn to your teacher! It is a good idea to try to find the answer yourself. If this doesn’t work, you can also look at your textbooks carefully. They may help you understand the problem.
Finally, while doing homework, don’t think about or do other things. Keep working. Setting a time limit(限制) often helps with this. Different ages decide different amounts of time. 10-15 minutes is good for a child that’s aged 6-8. A time of 20-30 minutes is about right for a child aged 9-12. Kids can keep studying for 30-45 minutes at the ages of 13-15. This, of course, depends on your ability to pay attention and stay on tasks.

A girl went to her father to ask for his suggestion. She was having a        time in life, and it seemed that as soon as one problem disappeared another one         in its place.
Her father, a chef, took her into the kichen. He poured water into three pans and put them on to boil. After the water boiled, he put some carrots into the first pan, some         into the second pan and coffee into the last one. He waited without saying a word.
After 20 minutes, her father turned         the stove(炉子), took out the carrots and the eggs and put them in a bowl. He poured the coffee into a cup.
He asked his daughter, “Dear,         do you see?”
“Carrots, eggs, and coffee”, she replied.
“Touch the carrots,” he told her. She did and felt that the carrots were       . After that he asked her to take an egg and break it. She found that the egg was hard.       , her father asked her to taste the coffee.
She asked, “What’s the          , Father?”
Her father said, “As you see, each thing reacted(起反应) differently to the boiling water. The strong and hard carrots became soft and weak after boiling. The fragile(脆弱的) eggs became hard after being cooked. The coffee beans were very special, but they changed in the water, too.”
“Who are you?”asked her father. “When trouble          at your door, how do you react? Are you carrots, eggs,          coffee?”

During my second year of nursing school, our teacher gave us an exam. I was a hardworking student and I did well in all the subjects. I finished the questions successfully until I read the last one: “What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?”
Of course this was a joke. I saw the cleaning woman every day. She is short and about 60 years old. She has dark hair. But how would I know her name? I had never talked with her before. In fact, I’d never even thought about talking to her. I stared at my paper and started to feel rather guilty. Finally, I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank.
Before the class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our grade.
“Certainly,” the teacher said. “In your life, you will meet many people. All are important. They deserve(值得) your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say hello.”
I’ve never forgotten that lesson. Everyone deserves my attention and I should get to know all of the people who work and live around me. That was, perhaps, the most important lesson of my life. I also learned the cleaning woman’s name was Dorothy.
