Robert is just one young overseas Chinese who has come to visit his ancestors’ homeland, as part of the In Search of Roots summer camp program. The program is organized by the local government of Guangdong Province. This program started in 1980, and so far has brought thousands of overseas Chinese students to China to look for their families’ roots. The young people are usually between 16 and 25 years old. (1) Most, like Robert, can hardly speak any Chinese and have never been to China before.
The students mainly visit parts of Guangdong Province in southern China. During the two-week camp, they study Chinese culture, see changes that have happened in that area, and visit interesting sights. (2) Going to their ancestors’ village is often the most exciting part of the trip. The students feel that they are part of the village, and experience village life. They drink from the village well, go for walks through the countryside, and watch the villagers do their daily activities.
Cathy Qian, a young American student, had this to say, “ Thanks to In Search of Roots, I am beginning to understand my Chinese roots and who I am. It has been a great trip, and I have so many memories of China to take with me .”
The program leaders believe strongly in the program and say that the purpose of it is to give young overseas Chinese the chance to learn more about themselves. “I’ve really enjoyed the trip so far,” says Robert.“This has been a big step for me, and I’m looking forward to finding out more about my roots during my time here. ”

For schoolwork, it means having one notebook and writing down all the work you need to do, so you know what you have to do and when to do it.
At home, being organized means having places to put your things. It means keeping your school bag, your shoes and your clean clothes in the right places, so you always know where to find them.
Planning is part of being organized, too. Calendars and lists can help you plan. You can buy or draw a calendar and put it on your desk. Making a to-do list for yourself is a good idea. Looking at your list helps you remember what you need to do.
You may think it’s hard to organize yourself and your things, but if you are organized, you will feel great. The less time you spend looking for things or worrying about the homework, the more time you will have for other things, like reading a good book or playing interesting games.

Failure is a part of life. No matter what we do, there are always two results:success and failure. There is no doubt that every one of us wants to be successful, but we can’t always avoid failure.
People have different opinions about the failure. Some people regard failure as a bad thing. They hold that they should always do everything well. If they fail in something, they will lose their confidence. Other people regard failure as a chance to learn. They redo(重做) what they failed to do.(1)They know complaining won’t help themselves.

It’s true that studying abroad can help students develop themselves. Their foreign language skills will be improved and it may be easier to find jobs.
But there are problems that should be considered. Language is the first. Students must spend a lot of time learning another language.
Students must also learn to live without parents’ care and deal with all kinds of things they haven’t to do before, like looking after themselves. There are reports about Chineses students abroad running into an ocean of difficulties and giving up finally. When they have to take care of themselves, it is hard for students to study well.
Finally, studying abroad brings a heavy burden to the family. For most Chinese parents, the cost of studying abroad is very high. But is it worth it?
We know that there are many famous people who have achieved success through their hard work in China. Liu Xiang is a good example. Once an American teacher invited him there, but he refused. He kept training hard with his Chinese teacher. He surprised the world when he won a gold medal at the Athens Olympic Games. So when you winder which country is better to study in, think it again.
